Optimizing Part Design with Moldflow Insight

Date: May 3rd, 2023
Time:
1:00pm-4:30pm

Instructors: Amanda Nicholson, Erik Foltz

Course Prerequisite: None
Cost: FREE

Course Description:

The goal of this free, half-day seminar is to help you understand the importance of manufacturing when designing and optimizing your plastic components, and how using tools like Autodesk Moldflow can help accelerate the product development timeline. The seminar is targeted at design engineers, injection molders and toolmakers. The seminar will begin with classroom-style presentations, followed by a live

demonstration of the injection molding process, and finally a Q&A session.

By the end of the seminar, you will learn:

  • The fundamental of injection molding process and how processing affects the performance of your plastic components and assemblies.
  • How to optimize your part design without sacrificing manufacturability of injection molded parts.
  • How gate design and location impact the expected mechanical properties of your injection molded parts. Particularly at weld lines, which are notorious for being weak spots in plastic parts.
  • What causes part warpage, and how can it be proactively addressed to avoid costly tooling modifications and product launch delays.
  • About opportunities to use injection molding simulations throughout the entire product design development cycle.
  • How different processes, part designs, and gate locations can be compared to show which case will result in a part with the best dimensional stability.

The demonstration portion will involve an at-the-press explanation of the injection molding process.  The aesthetics and mechanical properties of the parts will be compared, so you can see what the effects of weld lines are on real parts.

To get the most out of the event, schedule a meeting time with Erik and Amanda the morning of May  3rd, or on May 4th, to discuss your problematic parts and ask questions on part design, gate design, and part warpage.  Seating is limited for this seminar, so be sure to register early here.

Can’t make it this time?  Join us for a Cooling Seminar on September 20 or a Failure Analysis Seminar on November 8th.   To learn more about these other seminars, or be notified when registration is open please email Amanda Nicholson at Amanda.nicholson@madisongroup.com.
