Principles of Injection Molding

Course Details

Instructor: TBD

Hours of Instructions: 3-Day

Course Prerequisite: None

Date: TBD

Price: $1,350

This hands-on course is an introduction to injection molding for anyone who wants to know how pellets are transformed into the plastic parts we use every day. Students will learn what happens in a molding plant, from opening a new package of material all the way through packaging the final product. Every student will have the opportunity to run an injection molding machine and see the effects of changing machine controls.

By the end of Day 1, students will be able to:

Name the 4 plastic variables

Describe the flow of pellet through a processing plant

Identify the 3 components of the injection molding machine and understand their functions

By the end of Day 2, students will be able to:

Predict how machine controls affect the 4 plastic variables and part quality

Understand why not all polymers can be processed the same way

Explain why the “heat history” of a material affects its processability

By the end of Day 3, students will be able to:

Use the Scientific Method to solve problems

Test machine performance indicators such as linearity and check ring function

Find the root cause of defects such as air bubbles, voids and sink marks
