Course Description

This course involves the students in hands-on troubleshooting of common problems in the plastics injection molding process. It is designed for operators, technicians, process engineers, and maintenance personnel. The course is intended to give the student the information necessary to effectively operate and troubleshoot the injection molding process.

Topics of Discussion:

  • Flash
  • Burn marks
  • Sinks
  • Voids
  • Warpage
  • Splay
  • Short shots
  • Discoloration
  • Contamination

Each of these defects will be related back to the Four Plastic Variables and Pillars of Injection Molding to determine whether it is a processing, part design, machine, material or mold problem and find the best solution to make good parts, reduce scrap, and decrease downtime.
